SHORT STORY 3

Story-What Happened Durning The Ice Storm

Subject: Save the pheasants lives

Theme: They stood looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something

This story is What Happened Durning the Ice Storm,it's a very interesting short story. In this story there are two boys that live on a farm and its in the winter time and thier has been an winter storm. With the winter storm they have animals which some was taken care of but not the pheasants which some of them got cold ice over thier eyes. The two boys went out to check on the pheasants and some of them was alright and some wasn't.They boys put there warm and dry insided coats on some of the helpless pheasants. After they seen that the pheasants were ok they felt the cold soaking rain and ice through thier shirts, so they ran carefuly toward the blurry lights of thier house.

The subject for this story is to save the pheasants and not let them die. The theme of this story is when they stood looking at each other and expecting the other to do something. This explains the theme, because they had to figure out something to do to save the pheasants. I think the author was trying to reveal that the pheasants are going to make it throught the ice storm, as the other animals. I can tell that the author thought about the subject, because the whole time is that the boys are taking and caring for the pheasants, which is really the subject.

Movie-Biker Boys

Subject-Racing motorcycles for popularity

Theme-Burn rubber not your soul

My favorite movie is Biker Boys, starring Lawerence Fishburn and Derike Luke. The two guys are presidents of thier motorcycle clubs. Thier clubs is against each other and they race each other for money and helmets. Thier are also lots of other motorcycle clubs. Lawrence is the king of Cali. No one in California can beat him in racing. Derike the other president of his club, challenges Lawrence toward the end of the movie, and Lawrence let Derike win because Lawrence he had found out that Derike was his son, and Derike didnt find out til the end of the race, and Lawrene told him he was his father, but he didnt tell him that he had let him win.

SHORT STORY 2

1. The story I read was "Hair" . This was an great non fiction short story. I think the character that got his hair conked and died red is crazy because he took all that pain to look like an different person. I feel that the ways that they got thier hair did back in the days was horrible, all of the ingredients , and the horrible outcomes. This story could teach and show people how they did thier hair in the older days, before all the new hair treatments, they had to make thier own, and now days people just buy all of the ingredients that's in one package.

2. I think the purpose for the author writing this story was that to show how people back in the old days get thier hair did. But I think the author wants people to take away from this story is that , people doesnt have to go through the pain and then degrade thier self just to look like another human race. And I think he wants us to take away from the story that, by degrading your self and you can get injured and damaged,by changing if your're not carefull.

3. I think its important to read about other people's lives because it shows you what other people go through, and that person and you might have similar problems. These stories are so popular because lots of people enjoy reading them. Yes, because maybe something I've did and changed could help the person that going through the same thing.

SHORT STORY 1

The Short Story I read was Thank you M'am,by Langston Hughes. In this short story an woman by the name Mrs.Luella Bates Washington Jones was walking late at night about eleven o'clock in the dark and suddenly an boy came up and grabed her purse off of her shoulders and tried to run with it but he couldnt. After the boy ran with her purse she got her purse back and jacked the boy up. They didnt know each other at the time, and the Mrs. Jones took the boy home and asked him questions and fead him and gave him money. Mrs. Jones had figured out all of the boy problems and talked with him over them. While talking to him, she asked him whats his name and she told her Roger,so thats how she figured out his name. She forgave the boy for grabbing her purse and she told him she dosen't want to hear about him grabbing anyone else purse.

I think that this is an great short story, it explained everything well with good ideas. When she took the boy home with her, I think that she was an nice person to do that. She sounds like shes an carring lady. She fead the boy ,he washed his face ,and she gave him some money. I think it was wrong for the boy to grab the lady purse in the first place , and thats not the right thing to do. So I enjoyed the short story.

2)What I think about the character Mrs.Jones, is that she's nice because she didnt take the boy to the police, she feed him and she used this quote "Now here ,take this ten dollars and buy some blue suede shoes". The boy Roger,I think that he's a boy that needs attention, because Mrs.Jones asked him have he eaten supper, and he replied with this quote "There's nobody home at my house".

3)The author only describe Mrs.Jones as an large lady, and the author didnt tell you what she was like, so i fugured out what she was like in this quote,"I was young once and I wanted things I couldnt get."That quote tells me that she kind of knows where the boy comes from. The author tells me what the boy is about ,because in this quote."There's nobody at my house", that means that the boy parents probaly doesent care about him,and he's just out doing what ever he wants.

4. Define the following. You will find these definitions in the back of a literture textbook.

simile -a figure of speech in which two unlike things are explicitly compared

metaphor- a figure of speech that makes a comparison between two unlike things without the use of comperisons such as like, as, than, or resembles.

personification -the attribution of a personal nature or character to inanimate objects or abstract notions

allusion -passing reference or indirect mention

hyperbole -an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally

irony - the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

5)Something I found in this short story that was irony is when the lady took the boy home using this quote, "Then it will get washed this evening," said the large woman, starting up the street, dragging the frightened boy behind her. She took the boy home with her, thats irony because usually people wouldnt do that.
